About
The Monti Jazz Appreciation Society is a group of youthful music lovers from in and outside the port city of East London who have come together to appreciate the majesty of jazz. This formation is brought about by a realization of our common appreciation of jazz as a group of young people in the Eastern Cape, who frequent creative spaces that celebrate jazz. We celebrate jazz as an (art form) by contributing to the markets that service the artists that deliberately make an effort to be consistent in producing music that advances the genre and the landscape of jazz within South Africa. We buy the music of different South African artists to encourage them to continue producing the music and we host listening sessions where people can be exposed to the amazing music we produce in this country. At these listening sessions a host is tasked to buy an album, listen to it before hand and curating as listening session to an audience of people who are willing to engage the sound. This is a way of celebrating musicians of South African, their craft and most importantly their contribution to our intangible heritage in this country.

The eMonti Jazz Appreciation Society (MJAS) is proud to announce the official launch of the monthly-run South African Inxiles and Exiles in Concert Series to be launched from the 24 September 2019 in East London and Komani.
The Society which seeks to bring together musicians and jazz lovers in East London and beyond, to unite and experience the best possible creative expression platform for music during apartheid from the perspective of exile within and outside the country during apartheid. This is the spiritual as a political stance, of reflecting critically to the South African dark past, and a strategy to moving beyond its limitations to imaging new realities for ourselves and our society.

We are committed to creating a platform for free creative expression that will allow musicians and their audience to share unique and unifying experiences.
To supplying musicians with the most suitable setting and staging so as to perform in the most comfortable and inspiring space in East London, overlooking the Indian Ocean and facing the Beachfront Esplanades, a tourist destination hub and entertainment prime zone in Buffalo City. In Komani, bringing the music to the people at the Mlungisi Township.
To creating a respectful, socially balanced, community focused environment for our audiences, our supporting members, our staff and partners.
To contributing to the development of the live performance arts in East London and Komani.
